Provenance

Provenance is unknown. Local institutional knowledge (from former SCUA staff who moved on to another library department) suggested that this collection was donated to SCUA either by a former UCR library employee or former Library of Congress employee who moved to the Riverside area. This story suggested that these materials were extras that were deaccessioned by the LoC, came into said individual's possession, and eventually were given to UCR. These materials were previously housed in the SCUA vault in unmarked boxes with no documentation. In spring of 2022, Special Collections Processing Archivist Andrew Lippert reached out to archivists at the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian institute to research the possibility of the above story. Neither LoC nor the Smithsonian gave any indication that the above story could be backed up with any records for their repositories. After several back and forth emails, it became clear that these materials were not from either of those institutions. Materials were accessioned and added to MS 030, Collection on World War I and World War II.
