This sub-series contains the literary works of Robert L. Forward that were selected for binding in book form by Dr. Forward. The volumes are comprised of draft versions of Forward's science-fiction and non-fiction writings. The bulk of the manuscripts are heavily copyedited by Dr. Forward and/or publishing staff. Many manuscripts are also autographed by Forward and, occasionally, co-authors. All copyedits and autographs were made by Dr. Forward unless otherwise noted. Bylines are provided exclusively for co-authored works, works by other authors, and works citing more than one creative role.

Dr. Forward frequently inscribed his manuscripts with brief, contextual descriptions regarding the publication or revision of the work in hand. For those items containing such annotations, pertinent information is transcribed in a supplementary note.

Annotation by Robert L. Forward, 19 June 1981

"This last partial draft was finished off to produce the first full draft of the Rocheworld saga. There were some intermediate printouts of the remaining chapters as they went from their first typing phase to their edited phase. These are inserted in their proper places. The final editing and typeout was completed on 19 June 1981, with the final tape-in of figures on the 20th.

The following version is the first full draft of RW with a publication date of 20 June 1981 and consists of a typed original and 15 Xerox copies that were sent out to my technical reviewers for comments. Copies also went to Lester del Rey of Ballantine and Dr. Stanley Schmidt of Analog as possible serial material."
