This sub-series contains personal journals maintained by Dr. Robert L. Forward during an eight-year period of his time at Hughes Research Laboratories (1966-1972). While they primarily document daily activities and projects undertaken at Hughes, the earliest journal is described by Dr. Forward as "a separate notebook for professional work outside of Hughes." Dr. Forward inscribed his contact information on the inside cover of each journal and identified the date of his writings on the title page. He began the Hughes journals while an Associate Manager in the Theoretical Studies Department, transitioning to the position of Manager in the Exploratory Studies Department after less than one year. Contents include narrative entries, notes regarding departmental and other meetings at Hughes, and mathematical and scientific equations and diagrams pertaining to projects and experiments.
