Sub-Series Scope and Contents
This sub-series contains subject files compiled by Brown's office consisting of research and related materials on various issues and legislation, and used by Brown to assist with voting and legislative planning. Also included are research materials compiled during the 92nd Congress, when Brown was out of office. Materials in subject files include correspondence, reports, newspaper and magazine articles, memorandums, notes, and congressional hearings and legislation.
While the subject files cover a vast range of topical issues Brown's office researched during any particular Congress, issues more extensively documented in the series include alternative energy sources, air and water pollution, hazardous waste management, defense conversion, national laboratories, social security, cable and broadcast television, agricultural pest management, animal welfare issues, the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA), the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), appropriate technology, satellites, electric vehicles, and water resource issues including the Salton Sea and the Colorado River.
