The sub-series consists of materials related to Brown’s service on the House Committee on Science, of which Brown was a member from 1963-1971 and 1973-1999. Brown served as the Committee Chairman from 1991-1994, was the ranking Democratic member from 1995-1999, and served at various points as chairman of the Subcommittee on Science, Research and Technology, the Subcommittee on Environment and the Atmosphere, and the Subcommittee on Transportation, Aviation and Materials. Over the course of Brown's service on the Committee on Science, its name changed several times, referred to as the House Committee on Science and Astronautics from 1965-1974, the House Committee on Science and Technology from 1974-1987, the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology from 1987-1994 and the House Committee on Science from 1994-1999. The committee is currently called the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
