 Item — Flat-File-Folder: 1, Item: 5

Collection Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists of eight newspapers published in the United States during the Civil War era. The newspapers, which were published in 1862 and 1863, discuss the ongoing war along with other local news and issues. The majority of the newspapers are issues of the New York Tribune, along with one issue of The Rebel out of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and one issue of The Daily Citizen out of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The issue of The Daily Citizen is most likely a facsimile reproduction of the original issue, which was well known for being reissued on July 4th, 1863, with an additional note after Vicksburg surrendered to the Union army.
