Collection Scope and Contents
The collection consist of photographic postcards, photographs, and negatives of various people and landscapes of early 19th century Mexico taken by Hugo Brehme, a German-born photographer that moved to Mexico in 1905. Photographs in the collection include depictions of buildings, monuments, wildlife, ancient ruins, pueblos, and cities, along with photographs of Mexican people in their daily life.

Biographical Note
Hugo Brehme was a German photographer, considered to be one of the founders of Mexican pictorialist photography. After traveling to Mexico in 1905, he began photographing the Mexican Revolution, and after the Revolution turned to capturing the Mexican landscape and its people. He created tourist postcards for a living using his photographs, and published several photograph collections that became internationally known in the 1920s and 1930s.
