Historical Note
The Professional Advisory Council (PAC) was a group formed in 1977 to bring together gay professional men and women of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The goals of the volunteer organization were to provide a supportive forum for gay professionals in the area, provide referral servives and professional consultation for members, to educate the non-gay community about the gay experience, to encourage political activism among members, and provide a sense of community in the area.
PAC undertook a number of projects in the late 1970s and 1980s, including setting up a speaker's bureau to bring prominent LGBT figures to the area, establishing rap/support groups for members, providing business directories and referral services to local gay businesses and organizations, and setting up a telephone hotline to provide support and resources for the local gay community. The organization was mostly active during the 1980s, but continued on in a smaller capacity until the early 2000s.
