Collection Scope and Contents
The collection consists of an album of 27 black and white photographs taken during the Allison V. Armour expedition to Mexico in 1895. Photographs in the collection show some of the locations explored by the group, including Chichén Itzá, Isla Mujeres, various cenotes and other ruins. Other photographs include shots of the expedition group and their transportation. All photographs in the album include short captions.

Historical Note
The Allison V. Armour expedition to Yucatán, Mexico, was a research expedition undertaken in 1895 for the Field Museum of Natural History, then known as the Columbian Museum of Chicago. Allison V. Armour was a wealthy patron of the museum who funded the expedition, which was meant to carry out research for the anthropology, botany, geology, and zoology departments of the museum. Jointly headed by the museum's Curator of Anthropology, William Henry Holmes, the expedition took two and a half months and explored areas of the Yucatán peninsula researching the Maya, Zapotec and Mixtec civilizations.

Abstract
The collection consists of an album of photographs depicting the Allison V. Armour expedition to the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico, a research expedition undertaken in 1895 by curators from the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Photographs in the album focus mainly on the Mayan ruins visited by members of the expedition, with additional photographs of local scenery and the expedition group.

Processing of the Guide to the Allison V. Armour expedition to Yucatán, Mexico photograph album was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015. This project was funded by the UCR Library and administered by Jessica Geiser, Collections Management Librarian.
