This series contains sample documentation produced by the University of Chicago Radiocarbon Lab. Documentation consists of photocopies of sample information that was originally recorded in lab notebooks as well as original correspondence regarding the samples. The original lab notebooks from which materials in this series have been photocopied can be found in series 3: Lab Notebooks, sub-series 1: Listing of Storage of Chicago Samples.

Original folder titles used by the University of Chicago Radiocarbon Lab have been retained. The Radiocarbon Lab classified samples according to ten different geographic regions. Each folder title includes the geographic region followed by the country of origin for the sample. In addition, folder titles include the sample number (C-followed by a 1-3 digit number), a description of the sample and the name of the person or persons who submitted each sample.
