Biographical Note

Alfred M. Boyce was born in Maryland on May 2, 1901. He attended St. John's College for one year in 1919 before working as a crewman on a number of ocean liners and freighters. He went back to school in 1923, attending Cornell University for his bachelor's and master's degrees.

In 1927 Boyce received a position at the Citrus Experiment Station in Riverside working on entomological research, and earned his doctorate in entomology from UC Berkeley in 1931.
