Biographical Note

Betty C. Moore, originally named Anna Elizabeth Clark, was born on January 1, 1915 in Dedham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1936 with a degree in mathematics, and received her graduate degree in Zoology in 1937 at Columbia University followed by a doctorate in 1949. Moore’s research focused on very early egg development, working with two species of frog eggs to manipulate parental genetic material. She

She moved to Riverside in 1969 when her husband John Clark was hired as a professor in the biology department at the University of California, Riverside. Moore worked as an independent research associate for the department, where she continued her work on frog chromosomes and also worked on the fruit fly Drosophila. She also developed a strong interest in the Botanical Gardens at UC Riverside, attending meetings and serving on their board. She passed away on June 1, 2011.
