City of Los Angeles, Topographic Relief Map
Series Scope and Contents
The photographs in this series are pasted in albums with Lippincott’s handwritten numbers and captions. When this collection was first processed in 1999, processing staff transcribed photograph titles directly from these handwritten captions. The photo album titles were also transcribed from Lippincott’s own titles.
Several photograph titles reference outdated geographic names that include racial slurs. UCR Library has chosen to keep and add context to Lippincott’s use of harmful language in these titles. The titles reflect the place names in use at the time the photographs were taken. They also give information about how Lippincott organized and annotated his photographs. In 2022, notes on specific photographs were added to the finding aid for further context, including current place names where available. Photographs vary in size.
