This collection primarily documents the planning and early construction of the Shasta dam on the upper Sacramento River, including building of government housing, laying of railroad track, bridge construction, excavation, construction of the base and abutments of the dam, construction of the powerhouse, and diversion of the Sacramento River. Also included are photographs of the intial construction of the Friant dam, including abutment work and diversion of the San Joaquin river, and several photos of canals.
