Collection on Billy the Kid
This collection contains newspaper clippings, publications, post cards, and photographs regarding Billy the Kid, born William H. McCarty, Jr., a late 19th century southwestern gunman whose fame dated from 1881, when New Mexico's governor placed a reward for his death or capture. The collection documents popular interest in the legend of Billy the Kid (pamphlets, comic books, post cards, clippings), much of it related to New Mexico tourism and regional identity, circa 1935-1965.
