Biographical Note

Juan Silvano Godoi was born in 1850 into an aristocratic, Paraguayan family. He studied in Argentina until the War of the Triple Alliance broke out in 1865. After the devastation of the war, Godoi returned home to serve as a member congress from 1870-1877. After he helped plan the assassination of the president, Godoi fled to Corrientes, Argentina. He lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the next 18 years during which time he wrote and published numerous books and articles. He retuned to Paraguay in 1895 and in 1902 was appointed Director General of the National Library, Museum, and Archive of Paraguay. Godoi held this position until his death in 1926.

This collection contains correspondence, documents, publications, and other material pertaining to the personal and professional life of Juan Silvano Godoi, a Paraguayan politician, journalist, jurist, and historian.
