Civil War era newspapers collection

Abstract

The collection consists of eight newspapers published in the United States during the Civil War era. The newspapers, which were published in 1862 and 1863, discuss the ongoing war along with other local news and issues. The majority of the newspapers are issues of the New York Tribune, along with one issue of The Rebel out of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and one issue of The Daily Citizen out of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The Elmer W. Holmes papers is a collection of documents about Elmer Wallace Holmes, a Civil War veteran and leading figure in the history of Riverside, California. The papers consists of correspondence between Holmes and his family (noteably his mother and his second wife), a scrapbook, and documents related to Riverside County history. All items contained in this collection are reproductions of originals.
